Each one offers a different experience, from short strolls to longer hikes, making Killcare an ideal base for nature lovers.

Maitland Bay Walking Track – A Family-Friendly Favourite

For a walk that combines natural beauty with a touch of history, Maitland Bay Track is a must. This popular 2km return trail winds down to Maitland Bay, a peaceful beach framed by rainforest and sandstone cliffs.

Although short, the track is steep in sections, so a moderate fitness level is recommended. Along the way, you’ll pass through rainforest pockets and rocky outcrops before reaching the sand. Once at the bay, you can swim, wander the shoreline, or see the remnants of the PS Maitland shipwreck at low tide.

Flannel Flower Walking Track – Stunning Coastal Views

The Flannel Flower Walking Track offers the perfect mix of bushland and coastal scenery. Starting near Wagstaffe and Killcare, this 2.9km return trail links Tallow Beach with Lobster Beach and rewards walkers with sweeping views from the Lobster Beach lookout.

Graded as a moderate (Grade 3) walk, it takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes. The track is especially beautiful in spring when the native flannel flowers bloom in abundance, giving the trail its name. Part of the walk crosses a right of way on private land, so it’s important to stay on the marked track.

Taking about 3.5 to 4.5 hours to complete, this track is perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in the landscape. Highlights include the Gerrin Point lookout, a great spot for whale watching in season, and Maitland Bay with its shipwreck remains. With a mix of shaded paths and open ocean views, it’s a walk that captures the best of Bouddi National Park.
